CTIA 2013 – held in Las Vegas from May 21st through the 23rd – labeled itself as “THE Mobile Marketplace.” A move from the Las Vegas Convention Center to the smaller Sands Expo might seem to imply that the marketplace has gotten smaller, or at least more tightly focused. Combined with the fact that CTIA will be consolidating multiple events and moving its flagship show to the fall in 2014, it would be easy to write off the event. This would be a mistake.

The event has long moved past an insular focus on North America; this year’s keynotes including Telefonica, Deutsche Telekom, Walmart and Ashton Kutcher highlight a truly international focus and an industry vision that stretches beyond networks, services and devices to embrace the movement of mobility into retail, entertainment and everyday life.

Yet, even if it were just focused on North America, it would still be an important event. One of the largest telecom markets in the world, North America has been at the forefront of initial HSPA and LTE launches, joyn and VoLTE momentum, advanced carrier WiFi models, the advent of shared data plans beyond basic multi-SIM offers, operator commitments to connected home and connected vehicle business models.

In its latest Webinar, Current Analysis delivers a recap of the biggest news coming out of CTIA 2013. More importantly, building on our analysis from the event and dozens of operator and vendor engagements, we look to explain the trends that CTIA 2013 illustrated and their potential impact on the market:

  • With major smartphone and table launches taking place elsewhere, what did CTIA Wireless 2013 tell us about the evolution of consumer devices?
  • What were service providers and MVNOs at the show to talk about?
  • What about the mobile enterprise and M2M services (B2B and B2C)?
  • Where North America has been an early leader with LTE, what did CTIA Wireless tell us about 4G services, applications and networks?
  • What did CTIA Wireless 2013 tell us about new network infrastructure innovations?
  • With the three biggest mobile events of the year behind us (CES, Mobile World Congress and CTIA), what does the broader mobile landscape look like for 2013?

Did you make it to Las Vegas for the show? Great – join us for a broader view of its significance and our take on the takeaways. Did you miss out on CTIA 2013? No worries – join us for view from the ground. Wherever you were during CTIA 2013, join us for the opportunity to put the event into context and understand how the trends it revealed will impact you and your customers.
