Interop continues to be the premiere event where networking vendors, IT buyers, executives, press, and analysts come together to exchange knowledge and hawk solutions across the entire enterprise IT market. INTEROP Las Vegas 2006 came alive with the highest levels of energy, showmanship, and marketeering seen since 2000. Vendors were out in force, jockeying for eyeballs at the exhibition hall, but the real action at this year's Interop happened off the show floor, in the individual tracks and break-out rooms.

Current Analysis attended INTEROP in force, sending our analysts wading in to sort out hype from reality. Along the way, we also presented to three audiences at the show: A panel on evolving Wi-Fi issues and standards, a debate on iSCSI versus Fibre Channel, and a presentation on the future of the phone.

Several major trends stood out at Interop this year, including an intense focus on Network Access Control (NAC) technologies, product demonstrations for enterprise fixed mobile convergence solutions, discussions of communications' role in a service-oriented architecture, and continued momentum behind WLAN access, security, and troubleshooting tools.

And in all the hype and buzz, Current Analysis found over a dozen competitive product and service solutions that have immediate tactical competitive impact on the market as a whole. Show reports on those events are available here in one great package.
