Orange Business Services Makes Its ‘Secure My Device’ Solution Available Worldwide| Oct 21, 2008 | Enterprise Mobility| Competitive Update Current Perspective: Neutral/Positive Event SummaryNovember 21, 2008 -- Orange Business Services announced the worldwide availability of its ‘Secure My Device’ solution, a modular security solution designed to address security issues faced when managing mobile and remote PC devices. Secure My Device complements Business Everywhere and Mobile Office offerings from Orange Business Services. In addition, some Secure My Device benefits are central visibility, easy and rapid rollout with low operational risk, flexible security management and cost control. Analytical Summary• Current Perspective: Slightly positive on Orange Business Services’ initiative to make its Secure My Device solution available globally, because it was already available as part of the Mobile Office launch in the U.S. and the company has been discussing its progress on the new security options with analysts for a long time. However, the custom solution is competitive with what other rivals offer as value-added extensions to their RAS services and it is a critical component to enable the company to serve IT managers with a solution to mitigate attacks on mobile and remote laptops. • Vendor Importance: Moderate to Orange Business Services, because Orange has a different value proposition than some rivals. By making Secure My Device a standalone service, it feels it provides users that may already have their own security methods in place more flexibility. In contrast, RAS rivals have viewed laptop security as an integral part of the service, offering it either integrated in with the access client or as a set of add-on modules. • Market Impact: Low to moderate on the European enterprise mobility market, because Orange Business Services has strengthened its capabilities to meet global MNCs’ need for improved security. However, major RAS rivals such as Vodafone Global Services (in partnership with Fiberlink) and BT Global Services are already selling and/or working on the same issues to stay ahead, so Orange Business Services may be perceived as playing catch-up. Competitive Positives and ConcernsRecommended Vendor Actions| Client access - Full report in Enterprise Mobility - Europe | More information Recommended Competitor Actions• Competitors need to stress that, while Secure My Device offers some good functionality, it is not integrated in with the Business Everywhere solution and it still lacks some key capabilities such as device encryption and application white-listing/blacklisting. • In particular, Fiberlink can note that it has integrated a large array of best-of-breed security options in with its access client and it is all provided as a managed service. It should note that it is still flexible, as other third-party products can still be used and Fiberlink can even integrate them in on a custom basis if requested by the customer. • Vodafone Global Enterprise, Telefonica Europe (O2) and BT Global Services need to continue to emphasize to enterprise clients that their respective enterprise mobility solutions and security mobility enhancements are at the same level as Orange Business Services or higher. In addition, to create further understanding, these European rivals should highlight their future plans for value-added security services (not only for laptops, but also for mobile handsets).
