The data center is the epicenter of a network technology evolution today and the resulting challenges of evaluating, deploying, and managing these solutions have never been more difficult to assess for enterprises. The choices faced by dc managers include whether to consider storage & data fabric, flattened networks and latency benefits, virtualized switches to which virtual servers are connected, managing policies and QoS on both physical and virtual switches among other network challenges, all while keeping the daily mission-critical data center running.
Providing interoperability between data centers or between providers is another concern, and complicated by security issues and a consistent toolset. Attempting to scale up and scope the network demand for the next 3-5 years requires a crystal ball given the ramp in demand over the last 2-3 years. Capping this all off is whether to provide the ability to offer true application elasticity and agility with burst capability between the private infrastructure and a public one.
