The Important MWC 2011 Trends and Events

| March 2, 2011 |
The 2011 edition of Mobile World Congress was held from February 14th through the 17th in Barcelona, Spain. Per the GSMA (the event’s organizer), a record-breaking 60,000+ visitors from 200 countries along with nearly 1,400 exhibiting companies were in attendance.
As usual, Current Analysis had a team of analysts on hand and, following it, has produced a number of reports synthesizing the main key events and takeaways in a number of different market segments.

Beyond any of these roundups, however, we are often asked about the most important news or trends coming out of the show. What impressed us? What was the most important announcement? What are the trends we expect to see carried into the next big wireless trade show of the year – CTIA Wireless?
What follows is a conversation between Peter Jarich (Service Director, Service Provider Infrastructure), Bill Ho (VP, Consumer), Daryl Schoolar (Principal Analyst, Mobile Access Infrastructure) and Joe McGarvey (Principal Analyst, IP Services Infrastructure) exploring these questions, with themes and topics including:
  • Mobile Payments and NFC
  • Policy and Charging
  • Small Cells and New RAN Architectures
  • The Wholesale Applications Community
  • Nokia and Microsoft
