IBM Goes Native with New Connections Client for Android, iOS and BlackBerry |
| Aug 30, 2011 | Collaboration Platforms
| Analyst: Brad Shimmin, Principal Analyst, Collaboration and Conferencing |
IBM's newly introduced mobile client for IBM Connections 3.0.1 is competitive within the collaboration platform marketplace. Available for free to IBM Connections customers, this new native client app can be downloaded via the respective marketplaces for Google Android, Apple iOS and RIM BlackBerry. Most Connections capabilities are exposed in this new client, including file sharing, blogging, event streaming, ideation and profile access/management.
These features go well beyond the company's current Web-based access mechanism (which will continue, providing support for a broader mobile device community), adding mobile device features only available to a native application, namely the device camera. With this capability, users will be able to upload photos and video directly to Connections in the context of an activity stream or a community.
