On August 31st, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that it had filed an antitrust lawsuit to block AT&T’s $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile USA, based on the argument that a combined entity would reduce competition, resulting in higher prices, poorer quality services and fewer innovative products.
