Event Summary

June 10, 2008 – ANDA Networks announced the launch of its next generation multi-vendor EtherView 2.0 management platform, which scales to support over 10,000 nodes to enable carriers to meet the increased demand for carrier Ethernet services while maintaining management visibility across multiple equipment vendors’ products. EtherView 2.0 supports all of ANDA’s EtherTone portfolio platforms, which include EtherEdge, EtherReach and EtherSLAM access equipment, plus other typical upstream devices.

Analytical Summary

• Current Perspective: Positive on ANDA Networks’ announcement of its new EtherView 2.0 management system, because it not only supports the management and monitoring of its full portfolio of access equipment, but also supports equipment such as switches and routers sourced from other vendors. The system offers multi-vendor OAM support based on standards such as IEE 802.1ag, ITU Y.1731 and IETF RFC2544. ANDA noted a number of third party vendor equipment that has been integrated into EtherView 2.0 to help ease the burden for service providers that have or will deploy multiple vendor devices in their access network.

• Vendor Importance: Moderate to ANDA, since its EtherView 2.0 is an important step forward for the company to insure that its full line of access devices can be managed by one system. EtherView 2.0 also has the extensibility to reach out to perform management functions for other access equipment that the service provider may be using that is sourced by other vendors. EtherView 2.0 leverages the Nakina Network OS (NOS), a standards-based management platform which has been designed to support multivendor devices. The announcement is of moderate importance to Nakina, since its NOS gains visibility in a crowded market in addition to the potential sales/licensing fees resulting from ANDA deployments.

• Market Impact: Moderate on the carrier Ethernet access and aggregation market, because the access layer of many service provider networks is comprised of equipment from multiple vendors. The use of multiple vendors enables a best-of-breed approach, but brings with it the problem of integrating network alarms, statistics and other information which is needed to manage the network actively. ANDA leveraged the NOS to build its management system, with support for heterogeneous network elements for fault, configuration, accounting, performance and security functions (FCAPS), in hopes of differentiating it from other access vendors. Service providers may seek to leverage this capability rather than perform their own custom integration, depending on their internal resources and the capabilities of their OSS/BSS systems.
