Event Summary

January 21, 2009 – Anevia announced the launch of an end-to-end, carrier grade mobile video solution at the 2009 Mobile World Congress, offering live TV, video on demand (VoD), and time-shifted TV services such as Pause TV, Start-over, and Catch-up TV. Anevia’s mobile TV and mobile VoD solution over 3G networks includes components such as its ViaLive 220 series integrated IP headend, ViaMotion video server, ViaPlanner content delivery network management, and ViaFit content preparation/transcoder.

Analytical Summary

• Current Perspective: Slightly positive on Anevia’s launch of its mobile video solution at the 2009 Mobile World Congress (MWC), because it provides the company with a high profile venue to highlight its integrated offering for the delivery of mobile TV services. Claiming benefits such as simplified operation and maintenance, and fast deployment times, Anevia’s integrated video processing, streaming, serving and content delivery network management solution targets mobile video service providers including mobile operators, portal/content operators, MVNOs, and traditional telcos. However, Anevia did not provide a customer endorsement that would have validated the solution’s claimed benefits and market viability.

• Vendor Importance: Moderate to high to Anevia, which needs to continue promoting its differentiation (from larger rivals) as an independent vendor offering an integrated, end-to-end solution for video over IP solutions to address subscriber viewing experiences on their mobile devices, as well as on their TVs and PCs. To that end, the MWC announcement follows Anevia’s IBC 2008 launch of its 3Screens application suite, which supports the delivery of multiple entertainment options on multiple devices.

• Market Impact: Moderate on the digital media infrastructure market, and the video headend and content delivery system segments because, while Anevia can already demonstrate impressive market traction in its five years of operation, such as supporting over 300 customers and more than 8,000 channels, the company is competing with larger rivals, such as Ericsson, Harmonic and Thomson, who wield deeper resources and broader offerings and have established incumbency with key mobile TV accounts.
