| Show Update
Event SummaryApril 21, 2009 -– IBM has introduced new services, hardware and software aimed at improving the security of cloud computing environments, helping ensure the confidentiality of data and helping locking down applications from attack. Analytical Summary• Current Perspective: Slightly positive on IBM’s numerous security announcements at the RSA Conference because the announcements represent a broad set of product and service enhancements, new solution bundles, and new offerings. As usual, however, IBM has a lot to say and the individual impact of any particular announcement is lessened by the sheer volume of news. • Vendor Importance: Moderate to IBM’s security business because the company does have a lot of news. It also has a lot of security products and services and many of these announcements involve the introduction of new bundles that abstract a set of products to create a higher level solution that solves a particular business problem. This is an important task for IBM and one it has embraced. • Market Impact: Moderate on the security markets because IBM is a leading player. Some announcements obviously have more or less impact in particular segments. DLP vendors will be very interested to know IBM has entered that market with both feet, for example. More generally, it is worth noting that IBM has been very consistent in its security strategy over the last several years. The company has created a security framework, which serves as a backplane to its incredibly broad security portfolio and it remains steady in positioning all of its security announcements within that framework.
