Global Crossing Teams with Teliris for Telepresence Services Portfolio

| Jul 29, 2010 | Voice and Unified Communications Services
| Analyst: Brian Washburn

Event Summary

July 29, 2010 – Global Crossing has launched telepresence and collaboration services in partnership with Teliris. Global Crossing Telepresence expands on the carrier's managed video collaboration services. The available platforms range from single-screen personal solutions to customized meeting environments. Global Crossing Telepresence additionally supports video streaming of telepresence meetings through ON24's Webcast Center platform. The service can help customers in their decision-making, reduce travel costs, lower carbon footprints and increase productivity.

Quick Take

Analytical Summary

• Current Perspective: Positive on Global Crossing’s partnering with Teliris for telepresence services, because the carrier can tap into Teliris' customer base for inter-carrier conferencing: Teliris is a service provider that maintains hundreds of endpoints in more than 60 countries worldwide. Global Crossing also can use Teliris' global support for equipment sourcing, installation and maintenance. However, the carrier's choice of Teliris will stand out, as global competitors typically employ platforms from Cisco/Tandberg and Polycom.

• Vendor Importance :Moderate to Global Crossing, because the carrier will need to choose whether to focus its sales efforts heavily around Teliris-based telepresence solutions, or to take a more passive approach of selling these services as opportunities present themselves. Major competitors to Global Crossing are pushing their telepresence solutions hard into the market, so Global Crossing may have a more difficult time winning customers if it does not dedicate major resources to its own telepresence services sales.

• Market Impact: Moderate on competing providers of telepresence services, because Global Crossing's Teliris partnership represents a threat along two lines. First, Global Crossing is now in the market with a global, managed telepresence service that is differentiated from other available platforms, and that can be coupled with Global Crossing's low prices. Second, Teliris demonstrates that it is willing to partner with Global Crossing to sell its systems, and it could sign on additional global service provider partners.
