Saba Gets Sociable with New Collaboration Suite| Jul 9, 2010 | Collaboration Platforms | Analyst: Brad Shimmin Product Snapshot
Current Perspective ExcerptWe are taking a positive stance on Saba's introduction of Saba Collaboration Suite, which will be released globally by the end of August 2010 as an in-cloud solution. An on-premises offering will follow shortly. Coupling Saba's mature and successful Web conferencing/e-learning solution (Saba Centra) with its emerging social networking platform (Saba Live), Saba Collaboration Suite extends the company's established heritage within enterprise learning, conferencing, and talent management to embrace social software. More than that, though, it makes Saba relatively unique within the broader collaboration market as a vendor capable of melding transient and persistent conversations. The company's portfolio of collaboration features now bundles groups, blogs, wikis, and file sharing together with e-meetings, IM/presence, virtual classrooms, and Web seminars. This creates a combined solution that melds real-time collaboration functions with long-running community capabilities. Larger rivals within the collaboration space such as IBM, Microsoft, and Cisco have lately undertaken similar efforts to combine Web conferencing and social networking functionality. These efforts, however, do not match Saba's bundling/packaging efforts with Saba Collaboration Suite in terms of delivering a unified solution that can run across both private and public cloud configurations.
