Vodafone Seeks TEM Leadership with Two Acquisitions

| Oct 12, 2010 | Mobility Services
| Analyst: Kitty Weldon

Event Summary

October 8, 2010 - Vodafone Global Enterprise acquires Quickcomm and TnT Expense Management, two telecom expense management (TEM) vendors. The acquisitions are intended to benefit customers by providing even greater visibility and control of their fixed and mobile spend. Vodafone also believes this will further the business case for MNCs to adopt device management, security and UC solutions. The value of the gross assets being acquired are USD 6.9 million for Quickcomm and USD 2.8 million for TnT Expense Management.

Quick Take

Analytical Summary

• Current Perspective: Positive on Vodafone Global Enterprise’s acquisitions of Quickcomm and TnT, as these two telecom expense management (TEM) vendors will help the company further penetrate its MNC target customer base with high-quality TEM solutions. In addition it will pave the way to draw MNCs to a variety of complementary network and value-added services provided by the operator, such as managed mobility for mobile device management and logistics, and managed unified communications.

• Vendor Importance: High to Vodafone Global Enterprise as these are the first acquisitions the group has made in the space, and show its commitment to managed mobility in general and TEM in particular. Clearly the group sees significant opportunities in better servicing the needs of its target MNCs with a better process and platform and a larger, more sophisticated organization that is expert in all aspects of TEM. Current Analysis has already rated Vodafone as the leader in global managed mobility services and these acquisitions have the potential to take its leadership position to a new level.

• Market Impact: Very high on the global enterprise mobility services market, as nearly all major mobile operators, global network operators and IT service providers have put a stake in the ground in offering TEM and other managed mobility services. While competitors use third-party platforms as a base and have added on other capabilities, none has gone so far as to acquire a TEM provider, let alone two.
