Easynet Global Services Offers SIP Trunking to UK Enterprises at Wholesale Prices

| Oct 27, 2011 | Voice and Unified Communications Services
| Analyst: Gary Barton

Event Summary

October 24, 2011 -- Easynet Global Services has launched 'Easynet SIP Trunking,' SIP trunking service connecting the customer's IP PBX to its MPLS network and replacing ISDN lines and carrying voice traffic over IP. Easynet is passing on wholesale rates for off-net calls, allowing it to be competitive on price with its UK rivals. Easynet will provide an SLA for performance and availability of the MPLS network between the customer site and SIP trunk interconnect, a 24x7 support desk and SLAs for response to customer issues.

Quick Take

Analytical Summary

• Current Perspective: Positive on Easynet Global Services’ (Easynet) launch of SIP trunking, because Easynet is adding a valuable service to its portfolio which customers are interested in utilising to save costs and provide a foundation for UC. Easynet's decision to pass on wholesale rates for off-net voice calls is a strong marketing point, whilst SIP trunking in itself offers genuine cost savings versus multiple ISDN connections and Easynet predicts average customer savings of around 28%.

• Vendor Importance:
Very high to Easynet, because the absence of SIP trunking was a notable gap in its portfolio and the provider has responded with a well-thought-out launch at a time when companies are beginning to demand a single provider for their IP voice and data WAN solutions. Without SIP trunking, Easynet risked losing customers and finding it harder to compete for new managed services contract wins. Easynet carries voice traffic over MPLS between customer sites, but this launch will allow it to provide the breakout service to the PSTN.

• Market Impact: Moderate on the UK market, because Easynet is far from being the first to market with a SIP trunking solution in the UK and competitors such as BT, C&W Worldwide and Virgin all offer proprietary SIP trunking services. However, Easynet’s approach of not adding a margin to wholesale voice rates is compelling, and this ‘value for money’ marketing will appeal to customers, especially during tough economic times.

Easynet first to offer voice services at wholesale prices

24 October 2011 - Easynet Global Services today launched a new voice service which will help its enterprise customers simplify their communications infrastructure and reduce costs. Easynet Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Trunking provides voice telephony services at wholesale rates by connecting customers’ existing telephone systems directly to its network, bypassing mainstream telecoms networks. It is the first UK provider to offer wholesale rates to UK businesses on a transparent basis. Migrating to Easynet’s SIP Trunking Service can save companies at least 28 per cent in line rentals and calls, according to Gartner research.

SIP Trunking routes voice calls over IP through Easynet’s MPLS network and enables businesses to consolidate multiple ISDN lines and voice equipment down to a handful of connections that support both voice and data. In response to customers’ requests for a cost-effective and easy to manage voice solution, the service is offered fully managed, with Easynet’s SIP Trunking providing free calls between lines on the same network while charging wholesale rates for off-net calls. Further, SIP Trunking eases the migration towards Unified Communications due to its interoperability with applications such as email, video, instant messaging and call centre systems.

Easynet monitors the availability and performance of the MPLS network underpinning its voice and data services 24/7. This in-built resilience and flexibility extends to customers as well: in the event that an individual office is closed for whatever reason, all calls to it can be instantly re-routed to a chosen alternative destination.

Justin Fielder, CTO, Easynet Global Services, explains: “Transparent Wholesale voice rates delivered across a smart MPLS network using Easynet SIP Trunking is something our customers have been asking for. Traditional voice service providers charge retail rates to customers and make money from voice minutes. However, Easynet will pass on the wholesale rates straight to our customers and treat voice as an application running on our MPLS network. This enables us to offer our MPLS customers a completely managed solution for their voice and data needs by consolidating their ISDN lines and voice equipment, allowing them to take the first steps towards Unified Communications.”
