Q4 2007 Worldwide Ethernet Switch Market
3Com Grows Fastest in Consumer and Enterprise Ethernet Switches

RENO, NV and STERLING, VA – February 20, 2008 – Synergy Research Group and Current Analysis today announced the availability of the Synergy Q4 2007 Worldwide Ethernet Switch Market Share Report. 3Com’s strong Unmanaged Gigabit shipments led to the largest quarterly increase in the SOHO/Consumer segment while Enterprise Fast and Gigabit Layer 3 Modular revenues each grew 20% in the quarter.

"In the SOHO/Consumer segment, 3Com's Unmanaged Gigabit switch port shipments grew almost 26%," says Katie Trippet, Industry Analyst at Synergy Research Group. "In the enterprise space, 3Com again saw 26% growth in their Fast and Gigabit Layer 3 Modular products. In 10Gigabit, their growth was a little over 24%. That's 79% growth over Q3 Modular port shipments"

Overall in Q4 2007, total worldwide Ethernet switch shipments slipped 3.1% sequentially to $4.94 billion, which reflected only a 4.8% year-over-year increase. 2007 annual revenues, on the other hand, grew 12.2%. Q4 ports also declined 3.6% although total 2007 port shipments grew 16.8% over 2006. VoIP, security upgrades, data center consolidations and the move to Carrier Ethernet by service providers continue to be key drivers in this market. Moreover, the growth in blade servers and virtualization are helping to fuel the growth.
