Q4 2007 Worldwide IPTV Market Shares
Carriers continue IPTV upgrades to handle growth at the Edge


RENO, NV and STERLING, VA – February 25, 2008 – Synergy Research Group and Current Analysis today announced the availability of the Synergy Q4 2007 Worldwide IPTV Market Shares report. In Q4 2007, Total IPTV revenue increased marginally from 7.2% to 7.3% sequentially and 47% year-over-year to $116 million.

"The investment in Carrier Ethernet for IPTV has been very strong over the past year, and revenues in this segment grew 7%sequentially to $577 million. Revenue for 2007 grew 44 percent to $205 million," says Ray Mota, PhD, Chief Research Officer at Synergy Research Group. "IPTV has placed a focus on intelligence and service delivery at the Edge of the network. The lower CapEx and OpEx associated with Carrier Ethernet continue to drive carriers’ decisions to deliver IPTV using Carrier Ethernet at the Edge of their next generation network."

The IPTV Set-Top Box market increased 18.8% sequentially to $223 million. The momentum in this market will only continue to grow as service providers ramp up their IPTV offerings as they move forward. Cisco/Scientific Atlanta’s revenue increased significantly to 64.3% to $47.4 million for the quarter. Motorola captured 60% of the market share and Cisco had 21 percent market share of the IPTV Set-Top Box market.

Other Q4 highlights from the report:

  • IPTV Core revenue decreased 2.2% sequentially from 10.8% in Q3 to $299 million. 2007 revenue was $108 billion, increasing 30 percent sequentially.
  • IPTV BRAS revenue growth decreased for the third consecutive quarter from 2.5% in Q3 to 1% percent sequentially to $61 million in Q4.
